Beer: IPAs You Must Try

We’re not going to say these are the greatest IPAs in the universe. Everyone has their own palate, and beer is judged very subjectively. However, we will say that these IPAs are seriously worth a taste. You may have had some on our list, and others will be hard to find in some areas of the country. We have put the beers in no particular order; we love them all, and we recommend trying all of them a few times around. So, grab a few bottles (or cases), drink up, and enjoy!

“120 Minute IPA” Dogfish Head Brewing Co.  (IPA, Milton, DE, 18% ABV)

DogfishHead

The ‘120 Minute IPA’ is a hop-lovers beer. This IPA is packed full of hop flavor, and it is very well balanced. It presents hints of caramel, malt, and bitterness that creates a certain blissful toastiness. A small hint of citrus compliments the hops very well, and the light carbonation is pleasing to the palate. This is one of our favorite IPAs to sit in the sun and pair a great cigar with.

Recommended Cigar Pairing: Southern Draw Kudzu – Oscuro

“Heady Topper” The Alchemist (IPA, Vermont, US, 8% ABV)

Heady-Topper-The-Alchemist-450x431

This has to be one of our favorite all-time beers. The slight aromas of grapefruit, pine, and orange makes the taste-buds water before you even take a sip. Heady-Topper presents with a medium body, slight hoppy taste, and a slight floral presence. We crack open a can every chance we get.

Recommended Cigar Pairing: CAO Mx2 Maduro

“Double Half Hitch IPA” Crooked Letter Brewing Co. (IPA, Ocean Springs, MS, 7.5% ABV)

Double-Half-Hitch

Double Half Hitch IPA is a specialty beer made especially for MGM Resorts by Crooked Letter Brewing Company. This IPA is perfectly carbonated, balanced well with hops, and contains hints of citrus. Double Half Hitch is very refreshing and leaves us wanting more.

Recommended Cigar Pairing: Serie V Maduro Especial

“Jai Alai IPA – Cedar Aged (Humidor Series)” Cigar City Brewing Co. (IPA, Tampa, FL, 7.5% ABV)

HUMIDOR_IPA_12oz

Cigar City Brewing Company starts with their Jai Alai IPA as a base beer, and they add the cedar during secondary fermentation. The added cedar creates an amazing flavor profile, and it pairs with the hops very well. This is a very well balanced IPA, and it should be on the top of everyone’s list to try.

Recommended Cigar Pairing: La Flor Dominicana (LFD) La Nox

“Lagunitas IPA” Lagunitas Brewing Co. (IPA, Petaluma, CA, 6.2% ABV)

150-3-lagunitas

Lagunitas IPA is the perfect refreshing and satisfying beer to sit down and relax with. This beer is rich, perfectly carbonated, and has the perfect balance of hops. The IPA has a small hint of citrus, pine, and sweetness. This IPA is definitely one we will drink more of.

Recommended Cigar Pairing: Illusione Fume d’Amour Clementes

“Big Easy Session IPA” Abita Brewing Co. (IPA, Abita Springs, LA, 4.5% ABV)

Big_East_IPA

The Big Easy Session IPA packs a big hoppy flavor that is balanced out by an easy ABV. This IPA allows you to enjoy your drink, take in the flavor, and drink at your own pace. Take a few sips of this IPA and “laissez les bon temps rouler!”

Recommended Cigar Pairing: Joya de Nicaragua Antano Dark Corojo

“Two Hearted Ale” Bell’s Brewery (IPA, Kalamazoo, MI, 7% ABV)

Two Hearted Ale

This is an India Pale Ale style that goes well with just about anything. Two Hearted Ale is perfectly carbonated, and is all around very well balanced. The combination of American malts and an abundance of hops give this IPA an incising floral aroma and a refreshing crisp finish.

Recommended Cigar Pairing: MBombay Kēsara Vintage Reserve Nikka

Cheers!
