Cigar Review: El Güegüense (The Wise Man) by Foundation Cigar Company

El Güegüense (The Wise Man) by Foundation Cigar Company

“The 2015 IPCPR Trade Show in New Orleans, LA welcomed a new company and cigar into its venue this year. Foundation Cigar Company is introducing their highly anticipated cigar, El Gueguense (pronounced L Gweh-Gwen-Say.) It is translated to mean “The Wise Man” and derives from the ancient Aztec language, Nahuatl. The cigar was named after the main character in a satirical drama that had been the first literary work of post-Columbian Nicaragua. It is known as one of the most distinctive colonial-era expressions and as Nicaragua’s signature folkloric masterpiece combining music, dance, and theater. El Gueguense is still performed today during the feast of San Sabastian in Diriamba.”

The Review:

00:01. From the start, The Wiseman has a peppery bite, nice oaky flavor, and it has a great draw to please the palate.  It has an aromatic sweet smoke after the first draw.

00:15. The Wiseman offers a dry oaky-ness with a good amount of pepper that reaches to the back of the palate, but the flavor is not over powering.

00:30.  The flavor gets deeper with an earthy/oak flavor. The burn is even and has a great draw which offers lots of smoke afterwards. There is still a slight pepper feeling present on the palate.

00:45. At this point, The Wiseman offers a clean dry okay flavor. The pepper bite has dropped off quite a bit, and the cigar still has a good draw with lots of smoke and an even burn.

01:00. Nearing the end, The Wiseman continues to provide an okay flavor with a coffee finish. There is a very minor pepper feeling on the palate.  The draw is very smooth, and the burn continues to be even allowing smokers to enjoy the entire cigar.

The Wiseman

El Güegüense “The Wiseman” ; the name says it all.  It has a spicy side, it knows when to cut back; maybe its experience.  The Wiseman has great aroma with lots of smoke on every draw.  The burn was very even throughout the cigar, and it offers great flavor on the smoker’s palate. This is a great selection for a mild cigar.
