Thick Ash Thanksgiving Special : Grilling a Turkey

There is something special about the holiday season. Family, friends, and neighbors gather together to celebrate life, the season, and to give thanks for everything that they are so blessed to have.

Thanksgiving is a holiday of tradition, family, food, and football. We have decided to go nontraditional and make this Thanksgiving even more of a social gathering. We have decided to grill the turkey this year.

Grilling is fun, social, and it is quite delicious! Instead of putting the turkey in a traditional oven, we have decided to grab a few cigars, pour a glass of whiskey (or two), and fire-up the grill. What better way to throw a Thanksgiving Day celebration than to mix it with one of man’s greatest inventions; the grill?

Here is a 4 step guide to help you create your own Thanksgiving grill-out:

1. Prepare the Grill :

We prefer charcoal because it tends to add to the flavor profile, but feel free to use your preference. If using a gas grill, turn on the grill and pre-heat it to a medium-high heat.

2. Prepare the Bird :

Take the turkey, rinse it with water, and pat off the excess water with a paper towel. Take the wings of the turkey and turn them back to hold the neck skin in place. Then, return the legs to a tucked position.

After preparing the bird, brush it with olive oil. Season the inside and outside with Cajun seasonings, sea salt, and black pepper.

3. Grill it Up! :

Take the prepared turkey and place it breast side up on a metal grate inside a large roasting pan. Cover the pan with foil to keep the turkey moist. Place the pan on the pre-heated grill. You are going to want to grill the turkey for around 2 to 3 hours. Make sure the internal thigh temperature is 180 degrees Fahrenheit (85 degrees Celsius) before removing it from the grill. After the internal thigh temperature is reached, the turkey should be ready to remove from the grill. Remove the turkey from the grill and let stand 10-15 minutes before carving.

Have fun while grilling, and enjoy the experience. Smoke a few of your favorite cigars, and have a few glasses of Wild Turkey (we suggest Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit) with family and friends. Make your Thanksgiving memorable.

4. Enjoy! :

Carve your turkey and enjoy your Thanksgiving meal. A delicious meal, family, friends, and great cigars will make your holiday even more special.

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
